At Setup
- Buy only from official manufacturers or authorized resellers.
- Initialize the device yourself; never use a pre-configured seed.
- Write the recovery phrase on the official cards or stamp it in metal. Verify every word.
- Consider a BIP39 passphrase (25th word) for an extra security layer — but document it securely.
Seed Storage
Two geographically separated, offline copies are the minimum for meaningful holdings. Avoid digital photos, cloud storage, and password managers that sync to everyday devices. Metal backups resist fire and water better than paper.
Ongoing Use
- Verify receive addresses on the device screen before sharing them.
- Confirm every transaction detail on the device before approving.
- Keep firmware updated from official sources only.
- Never enter the seed phrase on a computer except during a deliberate, verified recovery.
Recovery Planning
Test a dry-run recovery with a small test wallet so the process is familiar. Know where both seed copies are stored. If the device fails and the seed is intact, restoration onto a new device is straightforward. If the seed is incomplete or lost, professional reconstruction may still be possible — contact us early.
